I own a '1997 Galaxy which has non standard forks fitted. They are old school suspension forks which weigh about the same as the moon.
I would like to know what my options are with regard to fitting some simpler, lighter replacements. Thank you in advance for your counsel!

I haven't tried them myself but I noticed these a fair bit ago.

I think a '97 galaxy would have a quill stem, so unfortunately the forks @Vantage linked wouldn't fit. If it's an ahead stem then Vantage's link would be great.

You can replace them pretty easily with a rigid fork - something like this . They might be labelled as 'hybrid' forks rather than touring bike forks, but it would be a case of cutting the fork to the right length, unscrewing the old forks, moving the crown race from one to the other and then slotting everything back together. Your LBS should be able to do it in a few minutes

Thanks chaps for your inputs. My son and I are considering touring together and getting the bikes sorted will move us a step closer!
