Well here goes. I am now in possession of my brothers Dawes Fox racing bike.

It is a total mess - Negative Points

- Frame has been spayed over with primer, it was Gold
- Weinmann Side Pull Dual Safety Levers are missing
- Weinman Brakes are missing (Long reach needed if swapping from 27 inch to 700c)
- 27 inch wheels rusty, but I will try and save them
- Huret Downtube 10 speed gear levers missing
- No front derailuer

Plus points
- Handlebars good
- Frame not damaged
- Has rear mech
- Its wicked cool

I will strip it, dip it and have it powder coated.

I will either try and source compatible authentic parts or maybe get a donor bike.

More soon.

Any advice appreciated

I have some alloy rimmed 27" wheels if needed will need a good service and or possibly new spokes.
Main advice is to enjoy it .

I might be interested actually - I begrudge putting 700c's on this. I assume I can get some tyres.

Would they work with a 5 speed cassette ?

How much are you wanting ?

thank you

I can understand the change to 700's

Yes I think one set might actually have a 5 speed block fitted , sjs always have multiple choice of tyres .

Cost would depend upon how much carriage is, where are you based ?

I am in Wellingborough Northamptonshire if that helps re collection

A couple of pics of the distaster.

I made an attempt on the forks to remove the paint, but alas it will need media blasting.

The wheels are a disgrace. I managed to save the back using MUD, it cleaned up OK. I found a decent spare front.

Some idiot painted over the gold with primer. (I think it was my dad)

What have you used to remove the paint ?
Cellulose thinners might have removed the primer leaving the underneath paint unscathed.

Novol Aerosol Paint Remover. Any recommendations for a deeper removal appreciated

I'm sorry but I had never heard of it . I had to look it up. I suggested cellulose thinners as there might have been a chance that the original paint might not have been too bad and could have been saved . I have a Falcon frame which had been painted several times and discovered it's original metallic blue paint underneath with only a couple of small areas which needed painting .
