Was just listening to this. A charming, urbane man and a brilliant comedian through his characters.

Brilliant comedian, very clever man.
I went to go and see him in his one man show in the West End a long time ago, he was fantastic. The person I went with didn't believe all the characters were just him.
He created (although suggested by Peter Cook) and used to write the cartoon strip character

Barry Mackenzie in The Eye. Very funny, although most of it wouldn't get published today.

Sir Les Patterson in the 1980's was simply brilliant. I'm surprised that YouTube still allows the clips to be shown. It's quite refreshing.

I was so lucky to see his live show in Melbourne as long ago as 1971. I can still remember that night well. People exiting the theatre were still laughing.
