Hi All,

I've got a DAB radio which doesn't power up. I don't know what the inside of one looks like . . . . . . . apart from the fact, that there are no valves ^_^ .

Is it feasible to fix these ?

Depends what's wrong with it.

Last time I was asked to look at one the chip that does all the work had failed. Not available from the service centre as a component so had to buy a complete PCB as the lowest level spare part. The price was just over half that of a replacement radio, so cheaper and less wasteful than replacement.

It wouldn't have been cheaper if I'd been charging for my time.

You may have difficulty finding somewhere to get it even looked at.

One day OfCom will allow DAB+ to be broadcast on UK multiplexes and it might be worth buying one, but they said no to Virgin so still no progress.

Quite simply, it doesn't power up; I've tried a different power adaptor . . .with the same result.

'Ta' for taking the trouble to reply .

OK, but that could be a fault with the battery/ external switch in the power connector, a fault in the power switching section of the main chip, a wire off inside, a PCB crack, the power button pads .....

Your biggest problem may be that in our throw-away, wasteful, cant-be-bothered-with-repairs society most retailers don't have anyone in-house who can diagnose faults let alone repair them, so they'd send your radio off to their service centre to be mended, with no option to say no if it's too expensive, and a charge for looking even if it's irreparable.

Looks as if I'll have to chuck it; shame 'cos it is in great condition and I like the look of it.

Thank you for your helpful replies !

I had a Pure Evoke 2S a few years back that set me back £200 when i bought it,It suddenly stopped working and wouldn't power on.
I had a local repair guy take a look at it and he said that getting parts for them was impossible,Even Pure would not offer a repair, instead offering £ 50 off a new one.

I went with a Roberts Stream 83i instead.
