D Day 80th anniversary.

I was out recently and came across these in a village. I think it's great that some places to to a lot of effort to commemorate events like this. Long may it continue.

Following on from the photo above, there was a superb display in the local church, someone had gone to a massive amount of trouble to put together a D-Day display. There were mock ups of rations, extracts from diaries, videos, life stories and tons of photos. The whole display was staggering. Outside was a paratrooper's bike.

Also whilst outside I overheard the oddest bit of phone conversation I've heard in a while. Someone said "I can't tomorrow, I've got to dismantle a landing craft". Made me laugh.

Most people probably don't know that Star Trek's James 'Scotty' Doohan was a D Day veteran.
He was shot six times in the event, eventually losing a finger but managed to hide that during his acting career.
