I've had cars attempt to cut down the inside of my trailer when I'm making a wide left turn, and believe it or not, unless you're watching the mirror (which most lorry drivers do when turning left) you can very easily miss a car down the left hand side of an artic trailer.

some lorries have fresnel mirrors which reduce the blindspot. But that, as I'm sure you'll agree, doesn't invalidate the stickers.

agreed , and as you posted they only reduce not eliminate. education of all road users is one step but how much do people listen

I doubt the kind of muppet who'd casually ride down the narrow inside of a lorry without noticing the big flashing indicator lights is going to notice a 'don't do it!' sign, especially if they don't notice a "don't do it!" SHOUT from a cyclist behind them either!


Better education - public information broadcasts, that kind of thing, is what we need.

That and contraversial! banning HGVs from busy urban centres, like they do in places like Paris.

I've just barely noticed these signs while bored, waiting behind one (not one for filtering really). Otherwise I wouldn;t have noticed them.

You've put your finger on it - they need to watch the mirror as its view changes, and to check nothing's arrived in the view during the turn - not just glance at it at some point after the manouvre's begun - which is what some do.

i saw a lorry with a 'signed' mudflap while driving with the better half just the other week - it had a 'no entry sign' on the far left and an arrow pointing down to the right on the other side - becoming the commuter geek that i am i mentioned what a decent idea that was. she just looked at me like i was a little bit sad

Funny enough I saw one today in Manchester, which was TFL (Transport for London) branded; on a Debenhams truck.

i've seen someone start to do that.... you really wonder what is going through their heads...

Good idea even though i've not seen one myself but i wonder what goes through the mind of anyone who thinls it's ok to pass anything bigger than a house on the inside !
As for passing traffic on the outside,i do it at certain places on my commute because it is the safer route and avoids the passenger door opening on you problem !

Have you seen the ones that are 'No Entry' on the right and a 'pass arrow' on the left?
They are usually on either side of a European registration number.

Yes! On a Danish lorry transporting wind farm towers etc from the harbour to the sites. I doubt many people would have noticed, opportunities for undertaking lorries are few and far between in the Highlands!
