Here's a story prompted by the other thread where a cyclist was hit from behind by a minibus.
I am a bus driver and cyclist and consider myself safe, courteous and polite.

Whilst stopped in a bus stop to pick up passengers and load luggage ,I was stood at the front of the coach with the boot of the coach open ready to load the luggage when I heard a crash and a bag and a loud scream.I went to the back of the coach to find a bike on the floor and a cyclist in the boot. After getting him out and making sure he was okay ,I asked him how he managed it.He replied that he didn't see the coach. The coach he didn't see was parked in a bus stop with hazard lights flashing and is 14 feet tall 8 feet wide and white, yet he still didn't see it.He was okay but his bike was knackered.Being a cyclist I can't see how he didn't see the coach.
Just thought I'd pass this on as now I find it quite odd.

I know I ought not to, but that has made me laugh.

I'm an ex-coach driver cg I nearly had the same thing. Mr Bean could not have done better.

Many many years ago I was told about a guy who was cycling along the A40 from Monmouth to Usk, doing a time trial. As he exited the dual carriageway, flat out, head down, he failed to notice the articulated lorry broken down on the slip road. The poor sod hit the trailer at 25+ mph, with no helmet. Unfortunately he died, a very sad but true tale.

Must have been many many years ago because riding head down like that will get you disqualified these days for that very reason.

I hate to spoil a good story by adding a bit of harsh reality, but how many coaches do NOT have a ******* great diesel engine in the "boot"?

Dunno - maybe my local coach station is unique, in only hosting coaches with rear-mounted engines, and luggage doors/storage along the sides?
