Years ago some cycle tourists ended up on the M8 trying to get to the Erskine bridge from the airport ( before all cycle route signs ) easily done without the signs.😲

That's my run to work, and they would probably be safer on the damn motorway than getting through Erskine during rush hour.

I inadvertently cycled on the verge of a Dutch motorway once. There wasn’t much of a hard shoulder as I recall but it wasn’t much worse an experience than parts of my London commute. Fortunately it was only a handful of kilometres to the next junction so I managed to escape the attention of the police.

Can you ride the M25 through the Dartford tunnel, I know it becomes an A road for agricultural vehicles??

You're right, the tunnel itself is not a motorway section, but cyclists are still not allowed. They used to offer a Land rover shuttle service for cyclists to get them through the tunnel. Don't know if it still available.

I'm amazed he wasn't hit by anything on that stretch of the M8, and he is either very brave or just oblivious to reality, if I'd accidently ended up there, I'd be as close to the wall on the left as possible, and in a very concerned state of mind.

I did ride on the M40 in Oxfordshire many years ago, but it was a few weeks before it officially opened, we lived in Banbury at the time at thought why not, it was a Sunday, not sure if cycling along a not yet opened Motorway is an offence, but nobody stopped us.

Yet he was still the person least likely to kill anyone on the motorways that day.

I expect he made some last minute heavy braking and swerving much more likely, I would normally be very critical of drivers who don't manage to spot cyclists (I have the scars) on the roads, but you don't really expect a cyclist to be where this one was.
