Witnessed a cyclist get hit at a junction. Here: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=kim..._NbcuqPNvZ4bomipPDmilA&cbp=12,356.64,,0,14.98

He was waiting to cross and there was a steady stream of traffic. The lights changed to amber, and as they changed to red, he started to cross (riding his bike). A car went straight into him and knocked him back onto the path (didnt fall over).
I headed over there to see if everyone was okay and offer my assistance, and the driver siad that the lights were on amber. The cyclist protested that they were on red, but I couldnt remember at the time so just stated that I wasnt concentrating on them.
The car behind was happy for me to take his details as a witness, and everyone involved headed around the corner to somewhere more quiet.

I took the wintesses details and headed to the cyclist and car driver. The cyclist said that his hand was hurting a little bit but said he didnt want anyone to be rung. The car had minor scratches to it, but the driver said he could easily get it repainted.

Both of them came to an agreement that the matter should not be taken any further (even though I was worried about the cyclists hand), and shook hands. They were happy for me to post the footage up which will be up when I have finished loading it.

I shook hands with the cyclist and he was greatful for my assistance.

Sound like it could've been nasty but glad it wasn't too bad.

I assume the cyclist was of the path/pavement sort.

Amber is stop for car drivers on that sequence so is in the wrong. Cyclist possibly should have waited a little longer as green is proceed with caution - idiot drivers about !

This appears to be it.

Difficult to see what happened. Bit of impatience from both men really.

Thanks for posting it, I was meaning to.

The traffic lights changed and it appeared that the car went through on a late amber, but the cyclist went through on an early red. The cyclist would have been caught out by the traffic on the lane next to him which was setting off as well (my opposing direction).

I think both parties were at fault, but in the conversation that followed, everyone calmed down and shook hands. No further action was taken.

When I watched the vid, I'm also of the same opinion. Both clearly at fault here in equal measure. Motorist too late, cyclist too early.

Dont you mean the other way around? The traffic light on the right is for the traffic turning right. There is an identical sequence on the other side (where I was) side of the road. The lights work exactly the same time.

We can't say for sure what the driver went through, the light sequences may not be exactly the same (the light we can see may change before the other directions light does).

The crossing appears to be a toucan crossing, so cyclist was allowed to use the crossing.

The lights change at exactly the same time. I have checked in the past. There is a junction just around the corner from me which does change in different sequences though. This was no fault of the lights.

And the path is a shared use, I have checked on google maps.

That is the exact situation. The car driver went through a very late amber (just changing to red) and the cyclist went at the exact same time, clipping the front right wing.

The driver was in no way an idiot (not for me to say), but he understood he went through on amber. I should have probably pointed out that you are required to stop on amber if it is safe to do so. Which you can clearly see it was.

It won't hold up in court, for the police or for an insurance company. They will need to see the drivers set of lights to confirm what he went through.

How do you know there wasn't a fault with the lights?

Hard to tell but I'd put most of the blame on the cyclist tbh, I don't cross the road unless I'm sure the traffic has stopped, red light or not :headshake:
