Just been informed by a work friend that a cyclist has been killed on fareham roundabout this morning. Very sad news, our thoughts with his/hers friends and family at this sad time. This roundabout is known to take quite a few cyclist lives over the years. Now another life lost. R.I.P

Bloody awful news. As was said, our thoughts go out to his(?) family and friends.

When are the Authorities going to acknowledge that the roads aren't just for motorised traffic...

That's a shame. RIP. It brings home the points made in the CTC magazine article about why the Netherlands and Denmark have much better cycling culture than in the UK. The attitude towards sharing the roads, and when possible, separating bikes and cars.

I found myself driving out of Fareham towards Portchester this morning and noticed the build up of traffic, that at the time, was back passed Cams Hill school..
I thought at the time that something bad had happened.
That roundabout is dangerous when driving a car, but a bike must be a shocker
Thoughts are with all the family.
RIP

102 views and only 3 comments, we must be getting used to hearing cyclist being killed
No, we're all cyclists, we all share your RIP sentiment, I'm absolutely sure, about this and every other death (the drivers, the pedestrians, and the 200000 heart disease out-of-sight deaths also).

If we don't post "RIP" on a thread I think it more reflects how we feel about posting "RIP" on a thread, not how we feel about the incident or those involved. Each to their own, post away, but you need not suggest we must be getting more used to things, please.

The problem is whether commenting is really appropriate when so title is known?this is local, but there is no idea of where, never mind how. There is little point until we know some details

Well, it's good to see that you've posted, but I also agree with what you say.

Searching the usual sites, the only recent item which is turned up is this very thread.

The Fareham roundabout is so dangerous for cyclists. A few years ago a young musician was killed when a bus cut the corner and crushed her. I navigate it frequently and it is a beast.

My heart goes out to the family.

There is a really good cycle path route that avoids the roundabout but it is so easy to bypass it and much quicker. This is though only if you hit the roundabout from the Gosport town end
