Just lack of training that you cannot get a CC until you are 18...

I don't know if the same rules apply in the UK, but I can give additional credit cards to all my Mortlings from 16 onwards (it's me that takes the risk, they are just additional cards on my account). Needless to say I burnt the offer as soon as I got it.

same here now UM 16yr old can have credit card, i think £100 max tho

I stand corrected. Was a while ago and I've not had any underage related refusals for, err, along time.

Maybe shouldn't be such a surprise as Master Pm (12) has a debit card.
