That could be a good way of cycling whilst the arm is recovering (she says never having used one).

The closest thing you will get to an Alpine pass in the UK is the Tacx iMagic with 'Alpine Classic'.

Contact RedBike for details.

Correct. There is really nothing in this country that compares to some of the Alpine Cols. Trust me, I have been up a couple, Alp D'huez, the Galibiere and Mont Ventoux in Provence. You will need to find the biggest hills you can and get lots of practice inn. Good Luck.

Thanks to everyone for the supportive comments.

I'm actually not going to have the chance to ride here again before the Tour, as I'm off to cycle around New Zealand for 6 weeks in April / May. Anyone got any experience riding here? The north island is supposedly pretty hilly.

With regards my bike for the France Tour, I am looking at either the Trek 1.2 triple or Specialised Allez triple. I have about £500-700 to spend. I'll probably upgrade the tyres, but wont have much chance to ride before the tour starts, so anyone with any experience of these bikes please let me know.

Cheers
Chris

Hang on, you're going round NZ for 6 weeks then riding the Tour?
*severely envious*
That's it, I'm going to have to shoot you now. Stand still a minute...
Both those bikes get good reviews. Probably down to personal preference / availability in your LBS.

Thats a great sounding adventure, even if you take two or three times as long as the pros to do a stage each day ,I suppose its just whether your body can take the long times in the saddle everyday. Going on your other tours its seems yours can, good luck and keep us updated with it.

i wanted to wish you luck

i think you will di it no problem if you are motivated

dont get me wrong it will be really hard but if you just keep pedalling you will finish

i cycled ventoux last summer and i will say that you will be in bits at some stages but it is so beautiful to keep you going.
