What's the verdict....I saw a pair on gumtree (don't remember the name) and are the really worth it....wearing proper shoes that is, even just for cycling as pleasure but nothing serious

What - those shoes or clipless shoes in general? I now ride clipless on 2 of my 3 bikes - much better when wet but a bit more faffy for commuting as I have to keep shoes at work

Have a read of this - only 30 pages long ;) http://www.cyclechat.net/threads/clipless-pedals-faq.74358/

If you need some more discussion of the matter, have a read here http://www.cyclechat.net/threads/who-is-not-clipped-in-and-why.132672/

I would probably buy new myself, from a shop where you can try them on for size. SPD shoes + pedals - realistically you are looking at £70-100 for entry level

I do, however, have a lightly used pair of size 9 specialized trainer style ones for sale... ;)

Fair enough - I am not a shop anyhow and don't take returns

Shops wise, Evans have a great range online, you can get delivered to store, try on ad return there and then if needed - there's one at Braehead

Yes, but they also price match about 30 retailers  I should have added that if you weren't aware

I bought some Shimano shoes from Evans, got a match against Parker International and saved £20. I got the same price on the larger size which replaced them even though the cheapest web price had gone up in the meantime

Take your smart phone, if you find some shoes, you can do a quick google, find a cheaper price at one of the match retailers and they'll reduce the price there and then

I probably wouldn't buy a bike from Evans but they are fab for kit
