Cycling shoes from Lidl

I purchased some cycling shoes from Lidl over the weekend. I have never used this kind of thing before.

I am planning on getting some Shimano A530 pedals (but don't have them yet)

How do the shoes 'fit' the pedals? All I can see on the sole of the shoe are two alan key bolts.

cheers

You will need cleats that attach to the bottom of the shoe and clip into the pedals. I think your Shimano's should come with cleats, but not 100% sure.

When you buy the pedals you will get some cleats which fit the bottom of the shoe and this allows you to clip into the pedals.

I would recommend you dont have the tension too tight to start with until you get used to them.

cheers. Now debating whether to get them from LBS (£55 less 10% discount as purchased bike there) or online (£38.10 delivered).

LBS will fit them foc, but assume that this isn't a difficult job

I've got a pair of those. Cheap, aren't they? The allen bolts are holding on a bit of rubber that covers the bit of the shoe where the cleats attach. When you get your cleats (which will come with the pedals as other folk say) you remove the bolts and cover and attach the cleats to the shoe. If anyone else is thinking about getting the Lidl shoes, the sizing is much more generous than most cycling shoes - go for your ordinary shoe size or even the one below...

You'll be fine victor. Will take 2 minutes to screw them in when you get them. Read up a few more threads on clipping in and out whilst your waiting for the pedals and you'll be off and away when they arrive.

The pedals are easy enough to remove and fit yourself. Google for a brief tutorial if you're unsure, and remember that the R & L pedals screw on and off differently (one is clockwise and the other anti-clockwise, but I forget which wa round it it).

You'll need a pedal spanner if you don't have one which might sway your decision to go the LBS route or not. Also I usually put a touch of grease on the spindle bit to stop it getting too seized up otherwise after a while it can be a bit of a sod getting them off again.

But make sure you do the cleat bolts up well! I had one come out after a while after which it impossible to uncleat from the pedal without taking the shoe off.. Off course it happened in town centre:blush:

I have these pedals which are good value and do the job.

The Lidl's shoes I bought are excellent. I used them to do the Raid Pyrenean and they are still in good condition.

Thanks, just ordered them.

Was a bit annoyed with LBS as they wanted to charge me a further £10 to fit the pedals and leave the bike there all day.

Why were you annoyed? Do you go to work for free each day, and do things as soon as you are asked, regardless of whatever else you are doing?

Nope. Pretty much standard they'll whack them on for free.

I agree with OP - £10 for a 2 minute job - plus they would have made a good profit on the pedals. poor lbs service

SimonC do bear in mind that the OP had just bought a bike there! He didn't just turn up and say 'fit these pedals and be quick about it, my good man'.

Mind you that's more or less what I did when I had a ticking noise. The LBS got out a very long allen key and tightened things. For nowt. Did the trick and I'll go back there even if they do charge me next time.

As stated, they were already £12 more expensive than I could purchase them for. So far I have spent over £500 there - everything I could have purchased a fair amount cheaper on line.

Having viewed this video: http://www.viewdo.com/now_viewing.php?id=417 which is what I am looking at doing, it works out at approximately 5 mins to do both of them. On the basis that I have spent a fair bit of money in the last 6 weeks, I would have presumed that it would be done free as I am purchasing it from them.

Personally I always use local shops when I can, however I do expect a good service from them - and charging £10 for a 5 minutes job is not what I consider good service.

Edit - I also would have been happy to book in a half hour slot - much more convenient (for me) than having to arrange a lift both ways if I have to leave it there all day. (the bike shop is 9 miles from where I work and 14 miles from where I live - which they are aware of).
