I subscribed to cycling plus at Christmas with a massive offer, free pump, shades, jacket and gel pack...sold the shades and it paid £20 towards the sub.

I had waited until it was worth it.

Is it a good mag? They all repeat stuff but I prefer plus, active was very dull this month but I will subscribe when the deal is right as I'm a magazine whore. Don't like the weekly one as its about the sport which is easier to get online.

If I had to pick one, it would be plus.

I subscibe to cycle plus , resub every year as a different family member to get the free gift that covers the cost of the sub .
This gives me a new bit of kit (windproof last 2 years ) and something to read during lunchbreaks

If you want to only read about the most expensive or desirable kit on offer then they are all full of articles covering this as well as the usual adverts. Better off spending the money on kit you want in my opinion rather than paying a fortune for the latest designer look or fad.

You might take a look at Cycling World: it seems to be on regular publication at last. This covers general cycling/touring. Yes, the advertorials are there, necessary to attract advertising (which pays for much of the cost!) but the articles are written by cyclists who do not depend on journalism for their income. The latest issue should be on the shelves in Smiths currently.

I'm not big into cycling mags. They seem to come out with the same phrases for any bike they test (so and so bike is stiff and you can really feel the power transfer of - insert name of whatever bike of the month - and so on.

I did buy a number of magazines years ago when I got back into cycling, but I always knew to take the reviews with a bunch of salt.

But to answer your question, the only cycling mags I like are Pro Cycling (I dont read it much but the photography is great) and Rouleur (pricey but good photos and stories).

I bought C+ for the first time in ages tonight; I wanted to see if they had anything about the Tour but tbh that was probably last month and I was curious about the soft case which was a free gift, a money pouch ?

I have a subscription to Cycling Plus. Enjoyable magazine, and there are articles about rides and other features (not limited specifically to riding) that are enjoyable if you're interested.

Yes, they lean towards the higher end of kit/bikes and certainly favour some brands, but that doesn't mean you need to rush out and buy a bike because you read about it. Plus they often feature more affordable kit/bikes.

I like Cycling World a lot; it’s a refreshing change to read a magazine which focuses on cycle touring, rather than hardware.

However, be warned, Cycling World demands a lot of the would-be reader. For one thing, the publication of the magazine seems to be hugely erratic. The website doesn’t inform buyers when the next issue will be out (in fact it lists May as the current issue, though June has been out for weeks), so regular checks at WH Smith seem to be the only option. This leaves me reluctant to subscribe – at the very least, a subscription should result in regular receipt of the publication.

It’s also worth mentioning that the production values are poor (or perhaps just charmingly amateur) compared to the glossy professionalism of CA and C+. Cycling World appears to be something of a one man band operation, with the editor single handedly assembling articles submitted by folk with more cycling enthusiasm than journalistic talent. Proof reading is conspicuous by its absence!

Having said all that, it’s worth grabbing an issue if you can find one. I’ll certainly continue to buy CW, but only on a month by month basis.

I have tried most of them, and still get cycling active as i waited until a decent gift was available, they only give the first 150.

I subscribe to cyling active although i buy plus aswell, and a triathalete one,not that i di triathalon it just inspires me reading these type of mags.
There also a good guidance to bikes/clothes and apps.

p.s

theres lots of events like sportives detailed and dates which they take place, besides they cost less than a packet of fags or 2 beers so
surely can't grumble at the price.
Thers another 1 i like Outdoor fitness but i guesss it depends on what you are into ,could be just cycling or the whole fitness thing,
everyones different.
