I've just had broccoli & leeks in cheese sauce (with toasted cheesy breadcrumb topping) for tea, washed down with two pints of Guinness, so I expect serious problems with wind later tonight.
Mrs Pete has already battened down the hatches!

Above 20 mph i dont bother cycling and put on my walking boots instead.

Time you enjoyed wasting was not wasted
Best to ride into a headwind on the way out and have a tailwind help you home when you're more tired. I use the BBC website to plan my route so I can achieve this when possible. Can't always be done and when the weather is as windy as it has been recently, I find I just have to go out and struggle, otherwise I wouldn't get out for weeks at a time.

That's exactly what I do. The wind here is always blowing north east ish so I usually zig zag as far south west as I can and then enjoy the homeward leg in a straight line, roughly.

The wind speed doesn't bother me as much as the gusts. Generally under 45mph and I'll carry on cycling to work, over that and I'll drive. Leisure riding is another matter, where I don't tend to go out if it's gusting.

I rode 26 miles today, miles 14-22 are wide open and the head and cross winds really hit you; it was 30mph winds to 42mph gusts. I find stopping is the most dangerous thing for me: much of that middle 8 miles is single track and I have to stop for oncoming cars now and then, I almost fell off trying to get back on the bike and move off at one point:blush:

I also felt much more tired and achy than the 35 mile ride yesterday. Only reason I went that route was Met Office said the winds would die down, in fact they got worse.
