As do many I'm sure, but it evidently didn't work for the OP, hence my question about diabetes. That might explain how he knows he had a sugar crash

To be honest it did not work for me the first few times, there again I do not have diabetes.

Well I dont think the OP does either until he says otherwise.

Either way he would be wise to have a bowl of porridge or something before cycling in the morning to avoid what he suggests was a hypo

No i've been tested for diabetes in the past I don't know why it happens I assume sugar crash because I feel really sick and start shaking but after something to eat feel much better.
I've done workouts in the morning on empty before but it's been about 4 months of no workouts due to injury so I thought it might just be my unfitness :S

I went for an early morning (6:30) ride after being up 15 mins, necked a coffee and set off. Did 22 miles and felt ok. Would have felt better if i hadn't forgotten my water bottle, but im definately in the camp that doesnt need food before i go out for the length of rides i do.

Hi all not sure if I've posted this to the right place but I've just recently started cycling again to get a bit fitter and trying to go every day however because of work this means i need to go in the morning. When i went oit this morning i had a mega sugar crash and couldn't go as far as i have done previously (but that could be because i had to take a break so probably not as fit) so my question is what would be tge best thing to eat first thing to stop ot happening again?
Many thanks
I can't get out the door of my house without a proper breakfast.. Now that said is up to each person.. We are not all alike.. My routine?
Breakfast... Bathroom... Pump tires... Water bottles... And I am good to go for up to 100 km.. if social ride I don't mind the coffee stop and a piece of cake or scone ;)

Pump tyres....must remind myself to do this!
I am a heavy rider.. If I don't have at least 100 psi I can easily end up with "snake bites" punctures.. After a few months I learned that one from an older rider..

Just remember everyone Is different . If you are new to getting out it may take you a little bit of time to experiment on what foods best suite you.

I am generally ok with just waking up and setting off for work on whatever. For my longer Tuesday rides I have me a bowl of porridge with honey and a mug of coffee, I try to eat 1 hour before I leave.
I always take plenty of water and a small bottle of energy drink just in case.

Two rounds of toast with marmelade or peanut butter or cheese & Marmite and the essential mug of tea does me nicely for my 12 miler each morning. But I'm more of a steady cruiser at about 11 - 12 mph.:cuppa:

I am a cup of coffee and away I go for my 12 mile commute, but as said we are all different. I run half marathons without taking any water or gels on board the whole race but I wouldn't recommend it to most!
