Out on a ride earlier, I spotted about 8 riders from a club on the side of the road, talking. As I went past I waved at them but they ignored me so I shouted: " Ignoring me then". One of them must have heard me because he turned round and waved. All the solo cyclists I see always waved back so I conclude it must be a club thing. Being in a group of usually faster riders, they must look upon solo riders as inferior. Like I said, a bunch of snobs not worth the trouble.
Do you know if they even saw you? If they were chatting they may not have noticed you.

Why do you care?

I only wave to cyclists who I've had sex with before. Sometimes it's four or five minutes before I give a wave.

i really dislike thw whole acknowledging every cyclist you see thing. most of the time im pushing myself and concentrating on what im doing, too bust tp notice other riders let alone have the breath to say hello.

i always say hello or wave if spoken to but very very rarely am the first to do so, only exception is if its some fit looking lass

:hello:

When cycling was a geek sport every fellow enthusiast you passed would exchange a greeting, just as motorists would with each other in the early days of driving. Now that everyone and his uncle ride a bike the practice is not universal, a natural consequence of there being nothing special in seeing someone else on a bike.

Not worth worrying about.

I've always figured that it depends on how many cyclists you see in a day as to whether you can be bothered to say hello/wave/nod back or not. In my corner of not so leafy Buckinghamshire, I might see just five or six other cyclists when doing a 40-50 mile ride and most of the time we will acknowledge each other (depending on traffic and terrain of course) because it's a rare sight and we know what the other person is going through.

However when I did a recce ride in the Surrey Hills in preparation for RideLondon last year, I went past hundreds of other bikes and saw that hardly anyone noticed their fellow cyclists - they just had their heads down and ploughed on down the road in the opposite direction. Now I could have immediately (unfairly) painted all Surrey/London bikers as snobs who don't care, but I figured it was the fact that because there were so many other cyclists on the road, that to have to keep waving every two minutes would have got quite tiresome very quickly, so no-one really bothered, which is fair enough. Nothing to lose sleep over!

Yes they did see me as they were facing the road. I do care because I believe in manners and this is something which is severely lacking in today's society.
