I've raced a few 'cross races singlespeed and think for most UK courses it's not a great disadvantage, and in fact can be an advantage if hideously muddy - particularly if you are used to riding a SS mtb.

Singular make some lovely, simple and classic looking bikes.

I'll second that.

My Peregrine is the favourite bike in the stable. Does everything extremely well and is more exclusive than my Tricross.

Looks great & very good quality/finish. You can always get hold of Sam if you need advice/help etc. Highly recommended:cheers:

That's good to hear djb. If only I had space for another bike I think a Singular, and probably a Peregrine, would be top of my list. I've read a bit about them in reviews and on other sites.

Do you find it at all heavy?

I intend to run SS on a 1980s road bike which has wide clearances as it is sized for 28", not 700c, wheels, with very deep-drop (74mm!) dual-pivots and CX tyres and to race CX on it - will send off my registration to NW CX League today. All I have to buy is the freewheel and the tyres. Even if I hate it and DNF, the parts will still be of use for commuting & roughstuffing...

Wouldnt fancy cross without gears, although not raced cross for about 20 years!

Dont know what courses are like now, but I used to use 14-28 6 speed block with single 42 tooth chainwheel, and used the full range of gears, always found it quicker to ride up steep climbs on 28 rather than get off and run up. Always nice to have 14 sprocket for long downhills, especially on playing fields etc where you could get a bit of speed up.
