Here in Norfolk we have some old rail tracks turned into cycle paths.I recently done the Marriots Way.This runs from Norwich to Aylsham,a distance of about 25 miles.Plenty of bridges and some old buildings. Also the Bure Valley Railway runs from Aylsham to Wroxham alongside the narrow gauge rail track. An interesting ride.

What were the surfaces like, suitable for a road bike (tourer)?

Also what are the anti-cycling barriers like ??

Can you get a fully loaded tourer through them easily ??
How about with a two wheel trailer on the back of a tandem ??
How many gates ??
Do any gates stay open by themselves or do they swing shut ??
etc, etc.

I'm on a recumbent trike with a trailer behind.
I've lost count of the number of times I've started down a so-called cycle track, just to find a narrow anti-cycling barrier I cannot get through.
It the main reason I don't use cycle tracks.

YMMV.

There are no anti/cycling barriers and a few swing shut gates.
