If that's all you want a DIY job would be my answer. A hammer , some nails , a few bits of wood .......

A couple of brackets from the DIY store, put on the wall so you can hang the bike from the cross bar, you can leave it on there so the bike is off the floor out of the way aswell.

I just lean my bikes against a wall when cleaning the chain.

Your probally right Blue, but i have made my mind up to get a chain cleaner bath, is there any brand better than others, dont mind paying for a decent one.

I'm thinking about getting a stand so interested to hear feedback, I want to be able to do the basics for my families bikes. As we have 6, and they are all different, a stand with clamp would make life easier and save my back.

I don't do full serviving on my bikes, but if I want to adjust the brakes or the like I just put my bike in my turbo trainer.

One of the best purchases I have ever made

I'm sure that's the one I was going to get an age ago, after it appeared in C+. Sure it was priced in the £40s then though. I don't want a stand that much.
Halfords do one (for 19.99) which just holds the rear wheel up but uses two hooks for the chain and seat stays. Has the advantage that there's no stand in the way of the rear mech like there is with cheap minoura option.
Leaning bike against a wall works for nearly everything except tweaking gears. Need the option of turning crank/wheels whilst working shifters with other hand. Wall's not good for that

I have a Park one - not cheap but very very solid and makes bike fettling and cleaning a much more pleasant task - would not be without it
