cycle shoe sizes v normal shoe sizes

Hi I am looking to get some cycle shoes on line as much cheaper. Though have seen that the Shimarno shoes come out at a smaller size hence you have to get a size larger. , and what about the sizing is that the same as the Shimarno? But does any one know about the sizing and quality of the Btwin range of shoe that’s sold by the Decathlon group of stores , also what sort of quailty are the muddyfox brand ( they seem ultra cheap) as have been told they are a brand to be avoided. any help would be most welcome. As I know this subject has probably been covered perhaps someone could point me in the right direction. Regards Ant

I think like most shoe sizing its best to try before you buy , i have found its not the length but the width that is normally the issue so if like me you have wide feet then you need to go a size up .
Muddy fox and aldi do tend to be proper sizing for me but then i need a size up in overshoes to get them over my shoes.

IME of Shimano, Sidi and Northwave I've always had to go up one size.

Wiggle, (and CRC I think), do free returns now which might be of use to you.

always been a solid 42 in normal everyday shoes - always been a solid 43 in cycling shoes.

Thanks for the replys so far but what about different quality of shoe I suppose it the old story of "you get what you pay for" As I can't see how some of these shoes can be so cheap (must they wear out quicker) I am gobsmacked at just how much you could pay for some of the shoes well into 3 figures !! There is a big difference in quality as the price goes up. However, the price does not always go up with quality in a linear fashion...

I started with a pair of Btwin shoes and they are fine. The Muddyfox shoes tend to have very flexible soles which is not good. Tbh it put me off trying a pair despite how cheap they appear.

Not really , i have some lake shoes but i needed the next size up to get them to fit my feet , the right size overshoes fit them though .

I'd suggest you try some. I can fit into Specialized shoes but not Shimano shoes since they're too narrow. However, Shimano boots fit me

BTW I'm 43 normally, but 44 in bike shoes.

Bike shoe sizes bear no relation to normal shoe sizes as far as I can make out. You really must try them on to see if they are comfortable. As smokeysmoo said, if you want to buy online, use a store that does free returns. BTW, if you have slightly wide feet, NorthWave shoes tend to be a better fit than Specialized or Shimano which seem hopelessly narrow to me.

Not really , i have some lake shoes but i needed the next size up to get them to fit my feet , the right size overshoes fit them though .

dhb shoes are good value for money.and the sizing is correct.I take size 8/euro 42 normal shoes and 8/42 dhb cycling shoes fit perfectly.

Well you all have given me lots of good info I will get on and work out which entry level SPD shoe I need But Would think that I'm sure to need a good over shoe now too. So the sizing is perhaps for a 46 shoe I see by some of your postings that I'd perhaps need a size larger if I'm reading the posts correctly?
