A little tip, set the auto pause speed at something like 3-4 mph, because sometime whilst at junctions you do get a few wayward readings, the sp/cadence sensor helps with this as it is slightly more responsive, though being wireless there is a little lag (unlike wired).
As for the H.R. well in Jan my Avg Max H.R. ised to be about 167 this month its 153 (though I think thats a little low as I forgot to put it on twice) last month it was 159, and my rides are technically more difficult, having said that my cadence has gone down a touch from about 80 to 77, but I am using a longer gear 62" compared with 57" which i think is due to the climbing, I have been doing, at alot of the time when I am just riding flat roads these days it wont even register in zone1.
The breadcrumb trial works well enough once you get used to it, the 500 (not sure about the 200) will also give you turn warnings if the right software is used to plot the route, rwgps for instance, though the V.P. doesnt work using that sites software, well it does, but at about twice the time it will take you, so you always win, with sporttracks you can even make it warn you in advance of turns (but you need to pay for this and the plugin).

I've got the 800 with HRM & cadence sensor, I am signed up to Strava and Garmin all have more functionality than I actually use.

I can swap the unit between bikes, so there is no need for other computers.

Yes they do cost a bit, but when I think of all the £20-30 computers I have been through then this ameliorates the up front cost a bit.

If you don't need navigation then the 500 will be the only computer you will need..........aside from a power meter!!

Lots of talk about the Garmins here - and I have an 800 and love it. But at your price range it might also be worth looking at the Brytons. Have not looked around but you might be able to get a Rider 50 (which will have maps) for around the top end of your price range.

I know there are Bryton users on here that might know sites with deals on and/or can advise you of the benefits of one of those units.

OffT, Wiggle for some reason locks up IE here, so I cant check the model but I've heard a lot of complaints recently about the premium hr strap and interference due to jersey flap. With me I found the old strap (from my 305) is fine if I check its tight before a ride and lubricate with water. Back OnT, I still use the predecessor to the 500 (the aforementioned 305) for commuting and I would have no hesitation in reccomending something along those lines

I've been trying to find a computer that does what I need without much success. I must be demanding! What are you looking for with the computer?

The 800 will possibly require you to buy maps, check whether any are included in the package.
