Ha posted at same time! I wish you could mount the comp on top tube rather than the bars!! I like it in middle lol

I would prefer top tube as well, leaves more space for lights and suchlike. But at £7 I am not complaining !

I am dizzy indeed. I even read the instructions and on closer inspection they clearly show the smooth side inwards rather than the battery side. I've twiddled mine round for now and luckily I have some spare zip-ties at home to re-do it.

I put the holder for the comp on wrong too lol. I had to nick some cable ties from the hubbys lol. I must replace those before he gets back at the weekend lol

I just bought the Aldi wireless one (9th July 2013). I would have to say that it sucks, big-time!
When I got home from work, I removed the computer from its clip and it still kept registering, but showing really ridiculous, random speeds, such as 36.7mph, 48.3mph, changhing every second. Eventually, after a few minutes, it shut down. About 2 hours later, I switched it on again and it was still registering silly speeds and it had clocked up a couple of hundred miles while I was having my dinner. I took the battery out, cleaned it, replaced and after going through the setup routine, it started displaying random speeds again. Resetting it doesn't help. There's just no way to stop the damn thing.

I should have known better. I've had other cheap electronic devices from Aldi before and they've been a let-down. For example, I bought a "radio controlled" clock that picks up a radio time signal from an atomic clock. Stupidly, in the UK they were selling ones that were tuned to the clock in Germany - not the one in Rugby, and it's never managed to pick up the signal from the German clock.

Don't buy the wireless cycle computer. Save up a few extra pounds and get a decent one.
(I have nothing against Aldi in general - just their electronic products)

Can the £6.99 Lidl wireless computer be stem mounted? I understand the Aldi one can't.

Yes, it can.
I just picked one of these up for Mrs Ms new hybrid and it seems to work fine, very pleased for £6.99

A couple of points to note when fitting:
  • Don't tighten up the cable ties too tight when fitting the mount to the stem. If you gorilla them like I did it can cause the mount to bend slightly which makes it difficult to get the head unit in and out - just snug them up.
  • When fitting the sensor to the fork it needs to be fitted with the battery cover facing outwards which seems a bit counter intuitive.

Thanks a lot Steve, that's great news. Really appreciate the tips and pics too. Looks very good. Hard to believe the price.

Update - bought the Lidl computer last night. Very pleased with it, especially being able to choose which functions you want. Not so keen on having to wake it up every time it's inactive for 5 minutes (simply continuing on your trip won't do it) but for 7 quid I can hardly complain. For instance it knocks spots off inferior Halfords computers costing over twice the price (their cheapest wireless computer has a list price of £19.99 with far fewer functions).

In conclusion, if stem mounting is desired, I don't think there's anything that comes close to matching the Lidl computer for bang for buck. Reliability? I'll have to wait and see.

Got the wireless computer from Lidl this morning for £4.99, it seems to works ok. Thanks for the install info Steve Malkin.

Any updates on the Lidl wireless comp's battery life, reliability, accuracy etc?
