I have a Trek Incite 8i its pretty basic but has all the essentials you need for the first while, unless you want to get a bit deep into analysis of cadence and routes etc. Its wireless and its £24.99 cant really go far wrong for that IMO. Only bad point is its Trek and I have a Spesh!

Depends on how many functions you want really but if you just want a basic one, I can recommend the basic one from Halfords for about £7. It works well and is easy to set up. In contrast, I have a supposedly better one on another bike which has been nothing but bother and would have been returned only I have lost the receipt.

Personally I wouldn't bother getting a wireless one, especially if money is a wee bit tight. I use a VDO C4 which has been very good so far, two years and counting...

I recently got a Sigma 1606L which has a lot of features for the money, though obviously I can't comment on its longevity yet. I paid just over £20 posted from DHCyclesport's ebay shop.

I considered going wireless but I've read too many reports of interference from lights and general unreliability for it to be worthwhile for me. Also, it's one more battery to die.

I'm still using a cat eye from the 1980's

I have just bought a cheap wireless computer from Halfords (bikehut) not bad but the £7.00 wired version is just as good really. They are small and nicely rounded with big led readout characters.

I bought mine from Wilkinsons, about the same price as the halfords ones, i think it was £6.99 or around that figure.
Does the job well, tells me distance, mph, calories burned etc..
It does reccomend not getting it wet, but its had snow all over it with no problems lol

Down the years I've had Cateye, Sigma and (currently) Trek. I can't remember what happened to the Cateye but the Sigma suffered from water ingress (after about 4 years). The Trek (incite) is ok but i dont like that I have to take it off to stop it recording (unlike the Sigma), the zeroing mechanism is becoming unreliable and it seems to suffer from more interference than the Sigma.

I use wireless, but it depends on the area where you ride. Some places seem prone to interference, but it's not something I've ever had a problem with. I believe the newer digital computers don't suffer with the problem anyway, and I wouldn't worry about batteries as the can be had for a couple of quid each.

I've got a trek incite on one of my bikes, it does the job (and trek gave it to me for free, so I'm not moaning), but yes, it is a lot more prone to interference than the cateyes I've used.
