It varies depending on which of the very many cycle to work schemes that your work has signed up for.
The last place my OH worked for, he was restricted to Halfords only.
The last place I worked for, I was restricted to Evan's Cycles and only had to say how much I wanted to spend.
The current place my OH works for appears to be much less restricted and you simply name the place and bike and they purchase it direct.

I have to go to Evans Cycles, its the only company we use.
For the OP's benefit - I wouldnt get your voucher until you know what you want. If you get £800 on the voucher, but end up spending £650, say, you would still be left with the remaining balance to pay

I liked the Evan's cycle scheme because when I did it, I was able to use the full £1,000 to towards the cost of a £1,500 bike and pay the rest in 'cash' and they didn't mind. Don't know if you can do that now, but we talked with them before hand. My OH was not able to do the same with the Halfords scheme...

Thanks to everyone who has replied. I will have a look at some of the suggestions. I can't use Decathlon with the scheme so that puts the Triban out anyway. I am due to get my voucher next Monday and will keep you posted with what I go for.

Can't wait, I'm like a wee kid at Chistmas.

Thanks again everyone.

Also, the scheme is run by Halfords, but i can use lots of other shops if they have opted in to the scheme. Only thing is, Halfords take 15% from the shop, so its not likely an independant shop will do much off a deal as Halfords will take 15% off the rrp.

The Boardman seems a good option mind you, but I am 6'4, and it only comes in 57.5 I think. I had also looked at a 61cm Felt Z95, but the more bike I look at the more scrambled my head becomes...

I have a Boardman Comp & a Felt Dispatch, & the fit of the Felt is better for me.
If you can try them, do so, & go with the one that feels right, & it most likely will be.

Based on your OP and responses the Boardman Road Race XL http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...uctId_789261_langId_-1_categoryId_165710#tab2 is a good bet.
Decent price n spec. Dont be put off by Sora, it's minimal diff to Tiagra and is still a good set and will serve you very well. Also full carbon forks.
Leaves enough room in your budget for shoes, helmet, extras etc.
As long as you have your main kit for starting out - including emergency riding kt, you can budget in the extra extras ongoing.

You will find that down the line theres always another piece of kit that you will need/want/have to have for bling etc.
Don't worry about not having the right labels to start with, the Boardman is bling-ish anyway and shopping around can find many a bargain, especially on the web.

Good look with whatever you buy
