My diet is varied, as in very healthy (at times), generally health most of the time... but I do like a choccy, or 2. And a Biccy. Muffins are good too... you get the idea.

Anyways, I have cut the treats out over the last few days and my average speed, and ability to push a higher gear and speed have come down a bit.

Is this normal?

Will my body adapt and get back up to speed on healthy fuel? How long will this take?

Shoud I go cold turkey or cut down gradually.

Why is there a mafia panda on the telly telling me to buy some biskwits? Am I hallucinating?

I thought the body turns certain foods into sugar anyhow, so your just cutting out the quick fix sugar and the unhealthy fats. Your body will get over it, it's no biggie.
Improve your intake with proper food to get the protein and nourishment you need.

The term i was looking for is simple sugars (that's what you have been eating)

Yeah, simple processed sugars can be addictive as you know!

It'll take a bit of time to get back to normal but you'll be a better cyclist for cutting down on the sugar as you'll be relying on different, less trough and peak energy cycles.

A bit of cake every now and then is ok but if it becomes the way to fuel your riding it stops your body being able to do it's thing with energy.

I was always led to believe that sugar is food for your muscles, so why cut it out when you go for a ride? You will burn it off anyway so no harm done.

When I'm dieting i tend to do the opposite and eat something sugary before/during a ride, something like a pack of fruit pastilles. It seems to help and I must burn it off, otherwise I don't enjoy the ride as much which tends to make it a bit counter productive if i don't want to go as far.
