Here it is.... It's right in the corner of the middle floor of a three storey rear extension built in the late 1970s, and it's well used. I would like to cut out a 460mm section of it from just above the level of the 6" joist and use two slip couplings to graft in a new length of plain soil pipe. I can chamfer all the ends and smother the seals in silicone grease but I don't know how to chop out the section that's going to be scrapped. I can support the length of pipe above the cuts to stop any blade binding, but I'm not sure of the tool to use. I don't hold out any great hope for pad saws or panel saws because of the corner walls . I could attack it with an angle grinder with the guard taken off (reckless) but I'm not too keen on a 10,000 rpm muck spreader spraying the slime from the inside of the pipe into my face. A wire saw might be an option.
Have any parishioners attempted a similar operation. Any advice very welcome.
Thank you.

Did exactly what you are trying to do a few years back. As you said you need to support the weight of whats above and then i just used a hacksaw blade without the frame and took it slow. It takes a while and its a bit awkward but once you get going pretty easy.
You need to be careful to keep it straight and put on a good chamfer with a bit of lube (silicon washing up liquid etc) to get the insert in.
Enjoy the challenge its easy enough once you get going.

What's the joint just above the joist?
It's not a joint, just a jubilee clip. I'm going to stick a pair of them either side of the slip couplings so that they don't creep about over time. They are also handy for holding the soil pipe in place while I cut it. Well, that's the idea....

I've seen those "Commando saws" on ebay and Amazon. I rather like the sales pitch that they can saw through wood, plastic........and bone.
BTW, I saw a youtube clip of somebody using a length of nylon string to friction-saw through plastic plumbing pipe.

Its not that easy. I had to do similar years ago on a downpipe that had been hit by a forklift.
The problem is, even if you can get a straight cut, you remove the old piece (I assume you want rid of the old boss), lets say the joint below the boss is re-useable, ypu insert a new piece of pipe into that, push a joint on that at the top, you now won't get it on the section above because of the overlap...does that make sense.
If the pipe is going to be hidden, I'm not sure if you can buy a rubber slip over joint (basically a thick piece of rubber hose )and fix it with hose clips.
I think that's what I had to do in the end...but it was maybe 20 years
Is that a soil pipe (sewage) or rainpipe out of interest.
