Cutting a Carbon Steerer

Use a sacrificial headset spacer as a blade edge guide - with a stem clamped on to the steerer to locate it securely.

Use a fine blade - 32 tpi

Set up the nozzle of a vacuum cleaner close to the workpiece as a dust extractor.

Let the blade do the work. Accuracy is more important than speed..

Deburr the inner and outer edges of the cut tube with some super fine sandpaper.

I bought a topeaksteerer cutting guide, cost about 15 quid, and used a hacksaw to cut the threaded steerer on my Pug. If you're going to cut a carbon steerer then use a carbon hacksaw blade. Total cost is around £20, imo better to use tools designed for the job than f*ck up an expensive carbon fork, I'm quite happy to use bodge tools sometimes, like my bodged headset press, but sometimes I think it's better not. Alternatively take it to your LBS and let them f*ck it up for you
