No I didn't do the sportive - I was too much of cheapskate to pay the entry when the weather might have been horrid
But since it was a lovely sunny but cold morning, I did head up towards Ambleside but cut round to Hawkshead before getting as far as Grasmere. So a shortened ride - about 70km - round Lake Windermere.
But it was enough for my feet - even with the electric foot heaters, they weren't exactly happy after the first couple of hours. I was on a mtb with knobblies, for the record
and it's a bit more of a work out than on the road bike with slicks. The road bike would have been OK as I only went off well-treated roads where I knew I'd be OK with the mtb and I wouldn't have done that if I'd been on the road bike.
I don't know what happened with the sportive - did it go ahead?
