My view is once the government do something practical to slow traffic down and make drivers more aware and culpable for pedestrians and cyclist's safety then I'll support helmets.
Until then I feel the government are avoiding tackling the difficult and expensive root of the problem (vehicle drivers) and instead targeting the victims of careless and dangerous driving.

Wearing a helmet it not going to effect the number of RTA's one jot

He does make a good point here though. I hear a lot of comments in the outside world about about cycling being dangerous. But it isn't*, it's the motorists.

Amen to that. My old driving instructor used to say when a pupil first sat behind the wheel of his car "you are now in charge of half a ton of killing machine". I don't think that many, if any, driving instructors say that to thier pupils these days.
