Ok, I’m a positive about them, as a historical experience, but won’t cruise again.
We’ve done 8, enjoyed them all, and had a fantastic time, despite us both being generally unsociable, and disliking crowds. We’ve always managed to remain outside of the throng and managed to relax.
The thing I really like is the “splash and dash” ( unfortunate comment!) of a quick visit... like a mini weekend break, at different places, Mediterranean, Ionian, Adriatic, Scandinavia etc.
We tried to engage with the locals, using local buses and trains rather than join the overpriced excursions, but inevitably had to join some to get the best of such a short visit.
We’ve managed to cycle in a good few places, Sweden, Denmark, Holland, Spain, to name a few, and on the last one, in 2019, took our Bromptons with us, to cycle in Holland and Belgium.
None of the cruises were better though, than our northern France cycle trip, over 4 days, to Paris, which only involved the sailing between Newhven and Dieppe.
I’m not sure we’ll be visiting another country for a few years though now, so various trips across the west and north of England will suffice.
I would have said, don’t knock it until you try it ( not that that should apply to every adventure), but now I’d advise against this form of holiday.
