i put cruds on my pompino, even though i have proper eyelets, it makes it easier to remove the rear wheel (fixie) due to the flexibility of the guards. i replaced all the fixings with stainless steel countersunk bolts and nyloc nuts, it only cost me £3. i did this because i lost an original plastic nut n bolt on the 1st ride.

Curious how you bodged them onto a Pompino. I've just done the same and while my solution is pretty sturdy, its not the most elegant, consisting of a few cable ties and numerous spacers. On the back I'll probably drill a hole in the guard and fix it using the bolt hole which is fine, but with the front there's such a massive gap from the tyre to the fork I had to use a bit of rolled up inner tube as a spacer (cable tied to the guard) so would like a more elegant solution that doesn't leave a massive gap between tyre and guard at the top.

Don't see the need for metal fixings. Just do up the plastic ones nice and tight and they won't come undone. I've been using Cruds for ages now and have never had any problems with the fixings coming undone.

i made some alloy brackets out of some alloy strip, dead easy to bend and drill. drilled the guards. to get a nice looking line at the rear i used 3 valve nuts, between the rear mono stay and the guards. under the mono stay is an m4 female thread. the lines look good and they run great, tho i am worried about reports of longevity.

ironically, i'll need to remove them when i run 35mm winter marathon spikes. i'll probably put some oversized sks on. i didn't think i would be putting spikes on the pomp, but i love riding fixed now.

just take the plastic bits to an engineering supply company and tell them you want the same but in stainless steel, but don't forget to get nyloc's or equivalent (they'll rattle loose).
