Aye, and you know what. That looks like a Triban 3 in the avatar, which lots of peeps use Cruds with seemingly no major issues.

For the sake of clarity, could someone tell me are we talking about Crudcatchers or Crud Roadracers? The ones I'm on about, and the spare ones I have in the shed, are Crudcatchers.

OP: You might want to remove your email address from that screenshot.

Looks like the pith taking is only going in one direction

This is why its best IMO to take advice on mudguards from an LBS which carries different models and can suggest what may or may not work

Expensive roadbikes aren't really designed with mudguards in mind ultimately...I've never even bothered trying on the pearson, that's what n+1+1+1 are for

Agreed.

Though it seems there's a growing trend thanks to the comfort accorded to carbon fibre, for 'race' bikes to be used for Audax even PBP where lightweight guards like Cruds are most useful.

I've gone the n+1 route myself with a bike for full guards and 28c tyres. The 'summer bike' gets the light wheels and skinny tyres.

That's as may be, but doesn't mean the manufacturers frames are being redesigned for mudguards. I had cruds on my avail, annoying rubbing, part losing things!!

Ribble's winter bike is £620 with 105 this week if wanting a wet weather machine (although the OP could just use the Triban  )

Agreed too. Race bikes are becoming increasingly difficult to bodge guards onto. Sportive bikes and the new 'so-called' Endurance bikes (I think that's the new name for an Audax bike) are starting to come through with full guard capability.
I had some success with Cruds on my TCR, as long as I stuck to 23c tyres. I just use an Arsesaver right now and man-up!

The Cruds on my Ribble have been fine no rattles and only the designed occasional minor rub that tbh I don't notice. The Ribble doesn't have eyelets for proper guards as it is the old 7005 racing frame and p clips won't fit on the carbon front forks so the cruds have been the compromise. For me they have performed better than the Raceblade longs that fit pretty much anything even with minimal clearance. Had these on my carbon bike which won't even take Cruds. End of the day though it is better to have either of these on rather than raceblades or no guards if you are riding in a group. It is not pleasant sitting behind someone with short or no protection on, when riding on a damp or wet road.

I have a Giant Defy that I wanted to fit mudguards to recently. So I ordered the official Giant Defy mudguards thinking this would be the safest bet. However, because I upgraded my brake calipers from the supplied ones to Ultegra ones the mudguards would not fit. I got the Dremel out and started to try and modify them without success.

In the end I decided to cut my losses and get the LBS to fit some. Yes, it may have cost me an extra tenner or so but they have the knowledge as to what will fit and can at least try a couple of different types (at their expense) until one works.

SKS racebaldes were fitted in the end and do an admirable job.

Like those Portland full fenders, wonder if they would fit the langster with a wee bit of fettling. Bit pricey to take a punt on. I use the crudroadracers just now on it which do quite well but rub no matter what.

You are a star sir! In one post youve answered all the questions I have been asking myself lately as the rain teemed down and I gazed at my Cruds, wondering what other options I might have.
