just wear through shorts very quickly!I would imagine it could have a cheesegrater effect on your thighs though.

Pure aluminium doesn't corrode but aluminium alloys can due to the other metals included in the mix. 7005 is worst. 6061 is much more corrosion resistant. (According to the info I've had through my aviation interests.Aluminium doesn't corrode...steel does eventually? I think...!

don't get me wrong i am all for the modern materials eg:carbon, titanium etc etc but carbon couldn't with stand any knocks or bumps and my bank doesn't like the sound of either of thoseWhen I read threads like this I wonder what you guys use your bikes for. When I were a lad I made a bike from found items, some were found on the river bank some in the river - and all serviceable. It seems self evident that if it is your intention to leave your bike in your garden for twenty years then rust proofing could be a priority, if on the other hand you want a bike that offers a smooth ride then using modern materials may be the way to go.
Notice in that last sentence that I emphasized 'ride'?
