I just accept the updates as they are pushed out to me, but my a/v software told me about this new security fix before the Java update software did!I appear to still be running Java 6. Is Java SE 7 a developer's version - it looks a bit like it on the Oracle website?
Read an article from pc pitstop today advising everyone to remove java completely as it's old software and not required now html5 is here
Ah - I do use Open Office from time to time.Stupid article IMHO.. Many non web applications are dependent upon Java.
OpenOffice demands Java for specific functionality.
Adobe create suite requires Java for specific functionality.
Major E-Learning platforms such as Blackboard Learning System requires the user to have Java Installed.
If you run a Virtual Private Network the industry standard Cisco Any Connect VPN client requires Java to be installed.
We are far away from being Java free Imho.
Ah - I do use Open Office from time to time.
What's the verdict on disabling it in web browsers then?
Sounds like a good compromise then - disabled for web unless I find a site(s) that I have to enable it for, keep it installed for software such as Open Office to use, and keep it updated. Not a big issue disabling it for the web, I just think at this time its short sighted to remove it from our systems completely
