I know there was a thread sometime ago on this light.

Well, I have one but there is a problem with the 2-pin charger. Firstly it won't stay in a standard shaving plug without fiddling around to get the red light which tells me it's charging, and I know it needs it. Secondly, the charger managed to short/blow an adaptor which converted amongst other things that 2-pin arrangement to a standard UK plug. Thirdly, when I plug the battery to the charger, even when the charger is not plugged in it gives off a green light suggesting to me that the power is running the wrong way!

So, anybody got one of these and can suggest a solution I'd be well chuffed. Basically the battery connects to the light and works a pack on the bike and then you take the battery off the bike and link it to the charger using the same arrangement. Now, i If I need to I'll use another battery pack but any suggestions? Surely there must be a charger that is compatible somewhere or a firm/outlet that sells these lights somewhere in UK.

With the clones, you can get a UK magicshine charger but you will need a 3.1 to 3.5 mm converter plug as the clone is a bigger pin ! The converters can be bought for £2 from Maplin.

PS if you plug the charger in to the battery, but not mains, it lights up green, then switch on mains and it charges (red). Best using a US UK adapter rather than a shaver adapter !

There are lots of lights using (or claiming to use) the XML-T6 emiter.
Try this ebay seller - he's got a good reputation and an informative blog. Sells various batteries & chargers (as well as lights) and gets his stuff all checked out before selling.

Okay that clears a few things up mate, cheers. So, the clone is presumably the charger they've sent me right?

Is the standard charger the one here they sell for £6.99 Fossyant? Under Accessories...

And I need a 3.1 to 3.5 adaptor, cool. Do you have a link for that converter mate, sorry to be a drag...?

I presume with this set up, I can USE the battery pack sent me with the light and do away with the charger they sent me, yes?

Thanks mate, well quick.

I had a problem with my charger as in it over heated and caused the electrics to trip out and then was no use at all. I contacted the company in Hong Kong who replaced the charger but it only arrived this week so I have not tried it yet. I borrowed a charger from a friend and his worked fine. It sounds like there could be a problem, should I look for an alternative charger?

Fossy, you're an absolute star mate, many thanks. Have ordered the charger and can get to Maplins soon enough.

A great many thanks. I should buy you a virtual pint.

Follow what Fossy has described. Here's a link for the Magicshine charger...

Go to Accessories at top and the charger comes up.

And thanks also to PPpete, will try that seller sometime.

Oh well, it was worth a go. I've received the MagicShine charger but the pins are both the same size!!!!

Cannot seem to find a female to female adaptor for the two male pins I'm stuck with, so it looks like I'll have to wait another 6 weeks to get another one from China....which I'm not going to do.

Any other suggestions folks? Wondering if a stereo jack plug might bridge them?

Take a regular three pin multiway adapter or extension lead. Don't plug it in yet. With the appropriate size screwdriver down the earth hole, you can mover the covers for the L & N out the way. Put the 2 pin in there.... yes round plug in square hole! Now remove screwdriver. Plug in the adapter.

Thanks PpPete, the original 2-pin managed to short an adaptor at Maplins! Not sure it's a good idea to use it at all but will try that.

I think I'll be ordering a MagicShine and when the next shite charger comes from China, the XML disappointment can go on top of my nod.

Yes mate, would seem so. The Charger from MagicShine is a male pin which is what I have on the battery so in order to bridge I need a female to female adaptor/connector which according to (one guy at) Maplins don't exist. CPC may do one but I can't find one. The original charger is hence female.

Not a problem Fossy, either I can sort it or not mate. Been in touch with the guys in China and will send me another but not holding out much hope for before the end of February so will keep it as a back up unless, as I say, I can find an alternative/female to female.

Thanks for all your input regardless.

You could possibly cut off the 2 pin plug from the original charger, and attach a standard 3 pin UK plug instead. (If the charger allows this, and If it will run directly off 240 volts, without a converter). Simple to do - Just make sure you don't cut off too much insulation!

If you're worried about it shorting out, you could always use an RCD breaker socket adapter.

About the charging light staying on: A lot of charger LED's will remain on for a short while after unplugging, being powered by charged up capacitors inside the charger (I know my laptop chargers do this) - Or it could be because the charger doesn't have a diode preventing current flowing from the battery to the charger LED when unplugged - If it is charging fine, then this shouldn't be a problem.
