My front wheel hub is making a creaky, gritty kind of noise....this started after I made a very poor decision to cycle through some very deep water in late march...lets just say I won't be doing that again !!

Anyway I have a 2011 spesh elite which came with ....
Rims:Mavic CXP22 with eyelets
Front Hub: Forged alloy Hub, sealed bearings, 28 hole, for J bend round spokes
The noise is a little annoying ive done 50-60k on it and tbh its got no worse and I don't really think its having much impact...

So my question is ...can I repair this hub ? or should just get it replaced by the LBS....

Assuming its a cup n cone hub, which I assume it is...it should be very fixable. Its probably just a case of the grease getting washed away, dry bearings or just out of adjustment.
If youve never overhauled a hub, it can be tricky getting the adjustment just right, but its a skill well worth learning. ..and once youve done it, it gets easier.
Alternatively, your LBS will overhaul the hub..
If you do decide to try, youtube usually has some clips, youll need cone spanners, grease and maybe some replacement balls.

might be a bit similar to this

alternatively most good LBS's should be able to do sealed bearing hubs

ok still a tad confused....Sealed bearings...these need to be replaced by the LBS ?
have you watched above vid?
you don't strictly need the the press and drift set a bit of pvc pipe and some careful hammer taps should do it
alternatively you start taking the hub apart and taking photos of absolutely EVERYTHING and doing sketches of how it all went together and putting parts that go together in the right order on a zip tie and then see if you can do it if not and something goes wrong take wheel/hub to and removed components (including old bearings) to LBS to sort out!
Cheers Ed

right i've looked now...doesn't look too tricky, part thats bugging me now is that i don't know what size of bearings i should buy ?
The rims are mavic, hubs seem non branded maybe OEM, so is it just a case of getting the old ones out and measuring them ?
This would of course mean that my bike could be off the road will i wait for the new bearings to arrive ?

Find a bearing stockist in your town; it's likely the bearings will be a standard size. Then get the bearings out and head down for replacements, which will be at a fraction of the cost of a bike shop.
