This is driving me nuts!!!!

I know it's the seat post and not the seat rails, bottom bracket etc. because with the saddle removed completely if I grasp the seat post and flex it forwards and backwards the sound is reproduced.

I've had the post out of the frame, cleaned both thoroughly and reassembled and the sound went away completely    ............for 1 ride

I've tried it lubricated with silicon grease (tried using a little and a lot) but same result. Just ordered some Shimano anti-seize which might do the job better but was just wondering it anyone else had any magical fixes?

The bike is a 2009 Giant FCR3 and the seat post is the original Giant one (so no compatibility problems).

I'm giving it 1 more chance and then the whole bike is going in a skip!!! :cursing:

Should have added - the clamp is done up to the correct torque value too (in fact I've tried various torques!).

I've just spent an age sorting out a similar problem, that started whilst trying to solve a magically dropping seat post  I found that the carbon assembly paste I was using to help cure the dropping post was causing the creak, which got worse the longer I rode.

I cured mine thoroughly cleaning the post and inside of the seat tube and then re-greasing with finish line Teflon grease, and greasing between the seat post and the clamp. I did 25miles at the weekend and not a peep out of it

Don't know why I said Silicon grease in my first post, it's actually Finish Line Teflon too. I've lubricated it to within an inch of its life. I've even worked the post up and down a few times to make sure the lube is thoroughly distributed. Greased between the post and the frame and between the clamp and the frame.

Just done the whole thing all over again and, as before, it's perfectly silent now when I ride it round the house. Probably won't have time to give it a good test until the weekend but to be honest the thought of it coming back is putting me off riding!

Mine creaked. We think it was the reflector bracket causing the squeaking for me. We lifted the seat .5 cm as it had settled a touch and the squeak has gone.
Could your reflector be the issue here too?

The seat post is now so silent (pending it's first real test) that I've noticed a very slight creak in the headset now that was masked before

No reflector fitted but the small back light fitted to the post is 10mm clear of the clamp and just to be sure I've tried it with even that removed

I have just had the same problem. My seat post was greased but needed to regrease the seat clamp etc. What is getting on my nerves is why the hell does everything need to be slavered in grease to stop the infernal creaking. We never used to have to grease seat posts and headsets to make a bike ride quietly in the old days, and we had aluminium frames so it isn't materials. I suspect that there is so much rubbish coming out of the Far East that things are not really fitting together properly so of course the parts are rubbing together to annoy us.

That noise is often coming from where the outer cables go into the down tube thingies, just a slight drop of oil required.

I've lubricated the bike now to the point where if I were to use any more grease/oil I'd leave a snail-trail behind me when I rode!
Roll on the weekend so I can put it to the test
