I have just fitted a Praxis BB to an S Works Tarmac. the guy who rides it is a powerful rider, so that will be a good test for it, I have fitted a few wheel manufacturing ones. they seem to work alright. i just like the idea of the Praxis screwing it together.

Well nearly a week on and the re-greased, re-fitted PF30 BB is still running silently. Only done 90 odd miles and a couple of wet rides so not surprising. I'm going to fit a Praxis conversion BB when my PF30 totally goes. Even though it won't offer any protection from wet weather at least it won't walk itself free. I live and learn and won't purchase another bike with this type of BB again. Now I just need to forget about my loud Fulcrum freewheel hub noise.....or just pedal all the time

BB30 ...spawn of the devil.... just convert them...less hassle and more riding... I'm not a fan of any of the press fit type BB's and same goes for my customers...lol.... and you never know what is really in the frame (contrary to spec sheets) until the crank is out.... then the fin begins...

I've read so many complaining posts about BB30 and more recently PF30 that it seems to be more than bad luck that these are creaking all over the place and perhaps just plain old crappy engineering.

Press fit BB's are the work of the devil and an answer to a problem that simply never existed, IMO that is ;)

Threaded BBs with user-friendly caged balls and square taper axles represented the high point of bicycle BB technology, and there was nothing wrong with cottered either apart from the weight penalty.

All the multiple press-fit standards and the various bodges to try to fix them are utter crap, complete garbage. None of my bikes have any of this PF shite fitted to them and never will have either.

🤣🤣🤣

The creaks are often silenced by simply greasing up the splines on the spindle where the crank attaches. I’ve lost count of the number of times people have come to me because someone has told them that their PF30 BB has “had it” because of a creak. I’ve put a big splodge of some decent grease, or even just applied a bit of wet lube to the inside of the crank (where it meets the spindle) without even removing the crank, and hey presto, no more creak, and no BS about it being “knackered if it creaks yeah, they all do that yeah” I’ve even had a power spline BB ( a sealed cartridge type BB, with splined spindles ) do it. A brand new BB was creaking like a good’un. Slapped some grease on the threads, and it was still creaking, put some grease on the spindles to which the cranks / rings attatched, and wet lubed them, bingo, no more creaks.

Put a bit of light grease in your free hub for silent riding
loud free hubs really annoy me

I am so glad I only have 25 buck square taper cartridge bottom brackets, some with 20 k or more miles on them that never creak, get loose or do anything besides work exactly as they should. Easy to install and with well greased threads, easy to remove. My goal with bikes is zero maintenance except air in the tires, a well lubed chain, good brake pads and sprockets and chainrings that are not too worn to work properly.

Thread resurrection after 718 days!!
As I said in February 2017: for background see this post and this one.
Also Hambini videos give a useful insight into BBs and the BB shell poor manufacturing/tolerances that are as much to blame as the BBs (as @Mark pallister has said).
