Well I took it all apart and re greased all the threads, put it back and no creaking, but I still get a click under load every pedal revolution. Have loosened the qr and re tightened, tightened seatpost clamp, will keep looking.
It's hard to pinpoint as it's only under load and doesn't do it on a stand.
I had a couple of threads running on the same sounding issue.

I ended up replacing my entire crankset, bottom bracket (twice as I feared my crank had killed the replacement) and pedals...still the click survived.

turned out to be my rear skewer, the cam was dry and despite a heavy push, it wasn't calming the dropout. The bike frame creaked (like a salvo of tiny clicks) in every non drive- crank -rotation...I was convinced it was driven by the cranks.

Check the QR levers.

cost me a lot of time to solve this one and a bit of cash two

Cleat bolts all tightened properly?
Bingo! I sussed that it was only happening when power was put through the right hand pedal, examination of the cleat bolts revealed each of the three bolts were loose by only a half turn (tight but not tight enough), enough to cause the clicking noise! cheers for everyones help!
