and pulled further over to the left than I would normally ride

Is this not a question of road positioning: Primary, Secondary and then the gutter. I had visions of you hitting the drain and being flung into the path of the lorry. I try riding to avoid metalwork and painted lines.

I reckon that it would also be a good idea to report the crash to the Police as a Personal Injury Accident, and to make sure a full report is made.

Count your self lucky. In Ireland, or least the part of it I live in, even the main roads are full of potholes. I have written emails of complaint in the past only to be told the "roads are maintained to a satisfactory standard" and I had no joy when trying to get money out of them earlier in the year when I damaged a tyre and bent the rim on my car after hitting a pothole. Even when they do something, it's usually a question of thrwoing in a few shovels of gravel and it's back to being a hole a few days later.

Isn't that why its called "Holey Ireland"?

On the plus side, the national roads are being upgraded & those that haven't yet aren't as bad as the roads over here.
Nor do the minor roads seem to be dug up two-three times a year.

Also come September, all councils in Ireland must conduct a survey of the roads that school buses will be using to make certain its safe to use the road. Driver reports back on all hazards.

I've used them once about a year ago and the road is still the same today

Did you follow it up, both with the council and the CTC to find out where the failure to act was? If not, then you're not helping, and you're not following up the report you made as one would expect.

The beauty of the CTC site is that it's independently recorded, and other cyclists can use the reports to sue the council if they haven't fixed a reported defect and it caused a crash.

I reported at 3pm on monday and passed it again at 2pm on Tuesday by which time it was fixed, which is impressive.

Still waiting to hear from the council about my claim, i'll keep you posted.

You could, but that would be a waste of their time and yours. It's nothing to do with them.
