I wondered if you unscrewed the nut of the valve.... Anyway as regards pumps: the SKS floorststanding pump is excellent indeed, and for a frame pump I would suggest another classics: the Zefal HPX. Any other pump I ever owned was crap.

My mini pump is fine for mtb tyres but road valves i cannot get a decent grip on and i end up bending the top of the valve when i try to get a decent psi after a flat, would one of the old style full length pumps be better?
I've been using the plastic version of this for about three years and it's been fine. I recently got a Joe Blow one after recommendations on this site, and I have to say even tho' it looks and feels like a 'better quality' product, I find it hard going. Nothing wrong with the pump - it's just that it has a wider 'piston', and I find it hard to exert enough downward pressure to get anything past about 100psi. I'm just not heavy enough - my feet lift off the ground! I think the one in the link would do you though.
i have 2 no name track pumps and have had no problems with either using them however my metal one somehow managed to get a thread in the pipe which acted as a blockage took that out and lo and behold working fine again. i must admit though i prefer presta valves to schraeder for not letting air out when you disconnect pump.
I have the Road Morph G as mentioned above .. but leant it to someone last week and it was returned with the cap missing... so I've ordered a rebuild kit ... and I won't lend it once fixed to that person again.
