hello all,i decided to dismantle my deore xl crankset to clean it i removed the large and middle chainring and in my haste put the middle ring on back to front the problem is when i tried to fix the problem i damaged one of the fixing bolts and now the alan key is just spinning around in the bolt so i am unable to undo it,is my crankset beyond repair, also i tried to remove the crankset to see if maybe i could use a screwdriver from behind but the the large alankey bolt on the crank arm doesnt seem to want to budge and im scared to use to much force,i believe this is supposed to be some kind of dustcover and i will then require a crank puller to remove the chainset am i correct, either way i will have to remove this chainset either to replace or repair so any help will be greatly appreachiated

If your crank is anything like mine, it's not a dust cover but actually the bolt that holds the crank in place so it can be quite stiff to undo. Yes, once removed you will need a crank extractor to pull the crank off the bb axle.
