Hi All,
Back with another basic question........
Since getting my new Boardman I have noticed that when I spin the pedal/crank backwards they seem quite "stiff" compared to on my old Kona which would spin 3 or 4 times with a good push..
Is this normal or does it mean there is a problem? Does it need some lube maybe ?
Cheers
Karl

Hoping the front brake will stop squealing soon as well, works well though ^_^

Halfords won't have assembled the bike from scratch. They break open the box, fit the front wheel and straighten the bars - that's about it. The crank doesn't sound like something to be worrying about...

It should spin freely backwards. If it is not, there is friction or restriction to spinning in one of the following parts.
Cranks and bottom bracket
Chain
Rear cassette and mech.
You can isolate each section and see which is causing the friction. You can do this by removing/ slipping the chain. Now spin the pedals. If it is still tight, then it is bottom bracket.
You can spin the rear cassette and see, then with the chain. You get the idea.

I think so mate ......
Its back in 3 weeks for its 'safety check' so I might leave it until then and raise three points with them and make them earn their money....
1) the crank spin
2) the squealing front brake which makes a slight 'pinging' sound when the bike vibrates over rough roads
3) some chain rubbing on the derailer in 2 gears.
After saying that I AM happy with the bike ^_^

I only commute 2 or 3 times a week and I am not going to be cycling into work now until 4th January, for one reason and another.
The 2 gears it rubs in I can get by without using easily.
