I've never really understood different crank lengths. If you think about it, the difference between a 170mm and a 175mm is, what, 3%? Can that really make a significant difference? Put it another way, your legs are pretty long...5mm is tiny. Even a cm is really small, and 5mm is half of that. That's really small. I've ridden 175s, 170s, even different lengths on each side, and I've never noticed any difference. FWIW.

My Moulton Mini has a single 49" gear. 14" wheels with 52 ring to 15 sprocket. One would think that would be bloody easy to ride. Yes it is along the flat at a constant speed.

When accelerating and climbing, due to the 5 ½" ( 140mm ) crank length, I have to put more force on the pedal to get the required torque at the BB.

I have a spare 46 tooth crankset with a 6 ¾" crank length. Do I install these and a 13 tooth sprocket to make a 50" gear that I can ride on a sportive for a joke? Or leave the bike standard for a 4'10" little person?

Sportive here I come.

Thinking about it, there weren't many Bradford on Avon Minis built with Sachs Torpedo coaster brakes in Pillar box red.
Most Minis were abused ( children ) and the rear rack bent by passengers.

I might have a rarity, especially with a Garmin Edge 605 fitted.

I reckon I could keep a steady 12 mph on a 50" gear, averaging about 8 mph overall.
I will have to start training.
