So, I've heard back from Wiggle and I'm not massively impressed.

I have to return the wheel so that they can send it to their supplier to 'inspect the product for any manufacturing defects and decide on an outcome.' They go on to say 'If the product is not considered to have a manufacturers defect we may only be able offer a repair service which may incur a fixing charge.'

I purchased these wheels at the end of January, fitted them in early April, and have covered around 1500 miles since.

I am not sure what I expected them to say (and I could well be being unreasonable), but this seems a lot of effort (and some uncertainty for me) on something that I believe is pretty clear cut. Am I being unreasonable?

Cheers

That's a pretty standard reply, they are just covering themselves in case something comes back that is obviously user misuse so I wouldn't be overly concerned if I were you.

I had a pump from them that I broke and they gave me pretty much the same response. They repaired the pump and sent it back to me at no cost to me, turned out I'd had it a lot longer than I thought and in my opinion they were well within their rights to tell me to whistle on either user error or length of time

Seems fair enough - if a little inconvenient

Rims made with these eyelets and where the anodizing depth is kept to a minimum, last a very long time. Think Mavic MA2. Mavic's MA40 which was essentially the same rim but with deep anodizing and a single eyelet, lasted about a week.

MA40s were double-eyeletted just like the MA2, and lasted for aeons. Maybe you're thinking of the MA3?

Thanks, if that's the case, I have my codes mixed up. I have samples (sections) of most of the rims of that time in my rim library but this is in storage at the moment. The one I am referring to is very similar tot he Campagnolo Strada - anodized and single eyelet with a flat, box section.

I don't know about the eyelets but I've had my MA40s on my bike since the late 80s/early 90s. They haven't cracked so far, therefore I do doubt the bit about lasting only a week.

Thanks for all the replies.

I will send the wheel back to Wiggle and see what they say. On that note, can anyone suggest where I might be able to get a suitable box to do this? Unfortunately I do not have a friendly LBS to ask, however I do pass a Halfords on my may home so will ask if they have anything. Other than that, is there anywhere else I could try?

Cheers

I know this is a thread resurrection, but my rear wheel has got some failure around the spoke holes, 32hole rim (disc brakes), 8 months old, 8000km on them, so waaaay under what I expected life wise from them. Front wheel appears fine presently, I've inspected each hole.

It appears to be a combination of what @Yellow Saddle said above in post #6, with anodized rims. I've attached a photo of the worst offender, currently waiting to see what the retailer/Felt have to say about it. I've retrued the rim and it looks damn straight to my eye, just required a tiny tweak with the spoke key, as none of the problem holes are consecutive on a side (they're all on the drive side).
