Could i convert my bike to disc brakes?

After being told by my solicitors that my bike damaged when hit by a car can be repaired or binned, i've decided to repair it. The carbon forks snapped but apart from that and a few cuts and bruises it's ok. I'm wondering if i could put a decent disc brake on the front? I've seen these forks.

Would it be possible and if so what brakes would you recommend?
 
First thought is do you have a liability warranty for frame?

On the disc brake front, why not as long as bearings and steerer, lever, caliper and wheel are all compatable.
Worth checking geometry too

Purely from an aesthetic point of view, will the bike not look odd with a disk only at the front?
I presume you have a black bike to match the fork?

The bike is silver, the original fork was black, It may look odd but if it works i'll be happy!:smile:
I'm thinking about turning the bike into a sort of a winter/cyclo cross bike. I'm thinking about taking the mudguards off so that i can fit wider tyres and go a bit more off road I know i'll lose the wet bum and feet protection but nothing wider than 25mm will fit without touching the guards, If i can fit a disc brake and 32mm tyres and maybe one of those tail clip on rear mudguards i'll have a decent winter/cyclo cross road/off road bike.

I put a new fork and disc on a giant mountain bike my son uses. It works fine for him. Iirc I used a Clarkes brake and disc. I also had to change the front wheel.

The fork will need to be compatable with mounting points for the caliper and your wheel will need to be a disk ready wheel / hub. It's a differnet set of standards and requirements as you are applying braking force from the centre, and onto the hub, as oppes to the otside and onto the rim. The rim moves faster than the hub so forces on the hub are more, this then is transposed to the frame - not a lot through the spokesm whereas a rim brak the force is apled to the rim, which pulls on the spokes to counter the momentum of the wheel.

In theory, yes, in practice, yes as you are getting a new front end so if it all fits together, the only compatable parts are the at the stem fits the head, and the leaver fits your bars.

Just remember that if going for hydraulics, the fluids will need changing depending ho hard / much you ride.
 
Frontal impact can cave in the head-tube. If the frame is carbon, the damage is invisible. With an aluminium frame, you need to look very closely for ripples.
Personally, if offered the choice, I would play safe.
When I worked in insurance replacement, we would always ensure that riders had a replacement at least as good.
