Costs a pound to 'spend a penny' on LyinAir

Is there any depth to which LyinAir and the appalling O'Leary will not stoop ?

As well as advertising £1 flights which come to £50+ by the time you've included such things as airport taxes, hold luggage and check-in fees, and charging an absolute arm&leg for a cup of instant coffee on board, he now wants to fit £1 coin slots to the loo doors on his aircraft...

But Rochelle Turner, head of research at Which? Holiday, said: "It seems Ryanair is prepared to plumb any depth to make a fast buck and, once again, is putting profit before the comfort of its customers.
"Charging people to go to the toilet might result in fewer people buying overpriced drinks on board, though - that would serve Ryanair right."
- yay !

Seems like a great idea. I love the fact that such airlines are able to reduce the cost of traveling by garnering subsidies from people that can't live without a coffee or a crap for a couple of hours. Good work Ryanair.

I wonder if it's just a wind up, The Guardian has the following quote from another Ryanair exec (complete with a terrible pun):

Stephen McNamara from Ryanair said: "Michael makes a lot of this stuff up as he goes along and while this has been discussed internally there are no immediate plans to introduce it."

He added: "Not everyone uses the toilet on board one of our flights but those that do could help to reduce airfares for all passengers. Then again, maybe O'Leary was just taking the piss this morning."

I presume you are referring to my name rather than implying that I, too, am a dickhead and therefore qualified to judge:ohmy:

indeed! Hence the bold type.

I saw the Ryanair guy being interviewed on BBC News this morning and I thought he gave a good explanation of where they stand.

You know you won't be able to ask the pilot to stop while you just nip in the bushes to save your quid ?

And if you are disabled or incontinent?

Also, not sure what law applies whilst in the air, but I thought establishments that sold food and drink had to provide a toilet.

Not wanting to defend Ryanair...

But I saw the interview with O'Leary live on the BBC this morning. He seemed to find the fuss they were making about doing away with check in desks quite funny. I tended to agree, the presenters seemed to think it meant you couldn't check in baggage.

I took to paying for toilet remark to be very much tongue-in-cheek.

There IS a toilet, you would just have to pay for the service. Disabled or incontinent people have money too don't they?
