A rice cooker is one of the most used devices in our kitchen, unlike others gathering dust in the cupboards.

No.
I microwave rice with the water level about an inch above the rice level until the water has been mostly absorbed and then rest for a short time. If still too damp then a bit more in the microwave. Works for me.

I just do it the way I always have
Portion of rice - loads of water - plus salt
add rice to water when it is boiling
start timer when the water is boiling again
stir once with a plastic or wooden spoon
cook for time it says on packet (10 minutes for Basmati - 25 for Brown Rice)
drain and rinse with boiling water

always works

Oh - sometimes add turmeric and lemon juice as well - especially with any white rice

tried the absorption method once - burnt it due to inattention or something

Just watched the "Uncle Roger" thing - I have seen people say this before

apparently I need worktop space taken up by a gadget I will use once ever 2 weeks when I have little enough space as it is!

maybe I should have a specialist egg boiler
and one for making the perfect omlette as well
and, of course, a George Formam grill
and a sandwich maker

anyone know a good builder so we can build an extension
I REALLY need on to extend the kitchen to have space for all these gadgets - must go and start a GoFundMe page!

This is all complicated. Boil pan with water, add too much rice, boil, drain and eat.

As far as I can tell it is compulsory to cook far more rice than you need

At least - I always do - I try to hide the extra and throw it out before my wife sees it and rolls her eyes!

I used to boil rice in water, like pasta, then rinse the rice. But I've since been told by natives of Africa,China and Japan that this is the "white person's way". So I do find that the wash first way is much better
